Gartartan Farm Shop

Gartartan Farm Shop
Type of Business/Project: Farming business including farm shop
Location: Ward Toll Nurseries, Gartmorn
Owners: ACM Nicolson
Produce: In addition to drawing in a variety of local produce from other food producers in the area (eg. local venison, Scottish pork/bacon), they sell their own Aberdeen Angus beef and lamb through the farm shop.
Target Market: The general public.

Description of Business:

 The farm shop is part of a wider effort to diversify the business towards more direct selling.  The aim is to “supply high quality produce, local where possible, to the surrounding area” and “promote eating local, good quality food".  The grant funded professional signage, press advertising and production/distribution of marketing leaflets & posters.

Riverside Nursery PTA

Type of Business/Project:

 

Food growing project within Riverside Nursery Garden

Location:

 

Riverside Primary School, Stirling

Owners:

 

The children with support from parents and staff

Produce:

 

Herbs, salad vegetables and strawberries

Target Market:

 

For nursery school use

Description of Business:

The entire Nursery school garden is to be redesigned and part of the area is to be turned into a herb garden.  In addition, the nursery plan to start up a composting scheme with the children during the summer term as well as improving various other areas for environmental biodiversity and creating opportunities for exploration and creative discovery outside.  FVFL funded the purchase of herb and strawberry plants so that the nursery children will benefit from instant access to plants and growth during a short summer term, and salad vegetable seeds and bags of compost.  The labour costs of setting out the herb garden, laying paving stones, cobbles, stepping stones etc. were also paid for by the grant.
