'find it, eat it' - a directory of local food in forth valley 2008

Call for listings in the 2nd Local Food Directory for Forth Valley 2008

FVFL is working with Enid Trevett (CVS Clackmannanshire), Mike Trevett (Action for Change) and Forward Scotland to produce the second edition of the ‘Find it, Eat it’ local food directory for Forth Valley. The directory is being produced in a new format, using the ‘Green Map System’. This system is a global movement of map-making teams that maps social, cultural, environmental and other features of value to local communities.

We would be interested to hear from the business, public and community sectors, that produce, process, sell or serve fresh foods made within Forth Valley using locally-grown or reared produce that has originated in Forth Valley:-

• Farm shops, box schemes & other ‘on-farm’ direct selling of fresh produce to the public

• Food producers (farmers / growers / smallholders) supplying markets or outlets in the Forth Valley area (including local suppliers to wholesalers, shops, restaurants, public services, caterers)

• Outlets selling / growing organic produce and/or ‘wholefoods’

• Caterers / hoteliers / retailers serving fresh local produce in cafés / bistros / restaurants / pubs / inns

• Public sector serving or selling local food in schools, care homes, hospitals

• Community cafés & community-based groups involved in ‘grow-your-own’ schemes or other community food & diet initiatives (such as community fruit barras)

• Farmers’ markets, fresh produce wholesalers, shops, delicatessens selling/using locally-grown produce & ingredients

• Primary and secondary processors using ingredients originating in Forth Valley

This edition will be available in two formats:

1. We are working in partnership with Action for Change, CVS Clackmannanshire and Forward Scotland to produce a searchable database and downloadable Green Map (see www.greenmap.org for details of Green Maps) on the Forth Valley Food Links’ website (to be upgraded), where visitors to the website can search by produce category / sub-category, company / organisation, and location.

2. As a printed map which will be accessible at various locations in Forth Valley eg community centres, libraries, tourist attractions, tourist information centres.

Forth Valley Food Links has produced a new local food directory called 'Find it, Eat it' - a directory of local food in Forth Valley 2005/06.

The directory is the first of its kind for the Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling local authority areas.  It aims to highlight and increase the profile of local food in Forth Valley, and raise greater awareness of where consumers can obtain locally-grown produce and foodstuffs prepared using locally-grown ingredients.  It will also help to make new connections between producers and suppliers and link them with potential markets, outlets and individual consumers.

The directory is being circulated to a wide range of people and places - members of the public, food retailers, catering and hospitality sector, libraries, community centres, public sector caterers, tourist venues, and is also being promoted through the local press and media, trade magazines, and Farmers’ Markets etc.

We hope that you will enjoy using the directory, and sampling some of the best fresh and locally-produced food that Forth Valley has to offer.  All constructive feedback on any aspect of the directory is very welcome.

Contact us if you would like a listing in the next edition.

If you require hard copies of the directory then we would  appreciate a Stamp Addressed Envelope (1 copy (35p), 2 (47p), 3 (71p), 4 (83p), 5 (£1.14) etc)

The directory was funded by Clackmannanshire Council, Falkirk Environment Trust, NHS Forth Valley, Stirling Council, Falkirk Council and Forward Scotland.  The base map was provided by Falkirk Council GIS team, and the directory was designed by The Write People, Room 33, Stirling Business Centre, Wellgreen Place, Stirling FK8 2DZ Tel: 01786 445022 www.thewritepeople.co.uk.
