you the latest news and information on developments towards a
sustainable local food economy for the Forth Valley area of Scotland –
Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling local authority areas. Forth
Valley Food Links is a project of Forth Environment Link.
The first ever Forth Valley Orchards Day is being held by Forth Valley Food Links and the Forth Valley Orchards' Group, and follows on from the orchard mapping project that was completed in March 2010.The event will take place at Dobbies Garden World, Craigforth, Stirling on Saturday, 25 September 2010, from 10.30 am - 4.00 pm, and will co-incide with Dobbies ' Fall into Autumn! family fun day.
Visitors will be able to visit the 'village' of stalls inside the store that will provide information and advice for anyone wanting to plant or manage orchards.
Among the free activities and information on offer are:
Orchard Advice Clinic– Come and talk to the orchard experts, including Appletreeman himself, Andrew Lear,who will be on-hand to answer any questions about how to manage your orchard, or how to go about planning and planting new ones
Fruit Identification – One of Scotland’s foremost fruit experts, Willie Duncan, will have a display of fruit, and will be available to help identify your fruit if you would like to bring this along with you
Fruit juicing and tasting – Try your hand at crushing fruit and pressing the juice.Bring your surplus fruit along if you have some, but there’ll be plenty available if you don’t.
Fruit Recipe Book - If you have any fruit recipes, then bring those too, and we will make a fruit recipe book
Children's activities- Join well-known orchard enthusiast, environmental education expert, and former head teacher, Margaret Miller, for a variety of hands-on and fun activities to learn about orchards and their benefits
The History of Orchards in Forth Valley display – Learn about the fascinating history of Forth Valley’s orchards
Orchard training & workshops – Sign up to training and workshop events to run throughout the autumn and winter that will look at creating and managing orchards
